Dating profile checklist

Choose a clear first photo

Use a recent image where your face is easy to recognise. Avoid making a distant group photo, heavy filter or sunglasses your only introduction. Additional photos can show everyday interests, but they should still look like the same person someone will meet.

Write a specific opening

Replace broad claims such as “I love fun” with small details that invite a response: the meal you enjoy cooking, the route you walk on weekends or the kind of live event you never miss. Specific does not have to mean private.

State intentions in plain language

Use the platform’s relationship fields and reinforce them briefly in your text if needed. It is fine to be open to more than one outcome, but avoid promising seriousness or exclusivity that you do not want.

Give conversation material

Include two or three subjects someone can ask about. A balanced profile shares enough about your interests and also leaves room for another person. Lists of demands tend to communicate frustration more clearly than compatibility.

Remove identifying details

Check photos and text for a home number, work badge, car registration, children’s school, routine, document, ticket barcode or precise location. Avoid linking a public social account if it exposes more than you intend.

Review tone, accuracy and access

Read the profile aloud. Confirm that ages, locations and answers are current; add alt text if the platform supports it; and remove jokes that depend on someone ignoring a stated boundary. Ask a trusted person whether the page sounds like you.

Final review before publishing

Preview the profile as another person will see it, including cropped thumbnails. Search each paragraph for information that identifies a location or routine, then check that the text gives a respectful person something genuine to ask.

• Does the first image clearly show you?
• Are photos current and used with permission?
• Is your relationship intention accurate today?
• Have you removed workplace and home clues?
• Are spelling and formatting easy to read?
• Would you be comfortable if the page were screenshotted?

Revisit the profile after a month. A small, honest update is more useful than repeatedly adding generic adjectives.
