Free registration is not always free use

Many services allow profile creation and browsing without payment but limit messages, likes, filters or visibility. List the features you actually need and check whether both people must pay for a conversation to work as expected.

Understand the billing period

A price displayed “per month” may be charged as one multi-month payment. Confirm the total due today, tax or currency, plan length and what happens at the end. Take a screenshot or save the receipt and terms shown at purchase.

Auto-renewal and trial conversion

Subscriptions may renew unless cancelled before a stated deadline. Trials can convert into paid plans. Check the renewal price, billing interval and notice method; do not assume a reminder will arrive.

Separate subscriptions from extras

Boosts, credits, gifts, read receipts or priority placement may be one-off purchases or consumable balances outside the subscription. Decide whether the core plan is useful without repeatedly buying extras.

Know who processes the payment

A plan purchased through an app store may need to be managed in that store account. A web purchase may use the provider’s own billing portal. The dating service, app store and payment provider can have different refund processes.

Cancellation is not deletion

Cancelling normally stops future renewal but may leave the profile active until the paid term ends. Deleting an app from a phone does neither. Follow the documented steps for cancellation, profile hiding and deletion, then keep confirmation.

Record the purchase clearly

Before confirming, capture the checkout page showing the total, duration, renewal and cancellation channel. Use a calendar reminder several days before the deadline rather than relying on a provider notification.

• Total charged today, including currency and tax
• Length of the initial billing period
• Renewal amount and frequency
• Trial conversion date, if any
• Cancellation location and notice requirement
• Separate add-ons or consumable credits

After cancellation, look for a confirmation email or status change. If it remains unclear, contact the billing provider through its official help page while the record is current.

Review the next statement even when confirmation arrives. A pending transaction may need time to settle, but an unexpected completed charge should be queried promptly through the official payment channel.
